Petit Verdot-Based Red Wine
A few years ago, Markus was blown away by Petit Verdot he tasted growing right next to 110+ year-old Carignane in Spenker Ranch and figured he’d experiment. This blend along with Zinfandel and dark, structured ancient-vine blocks has become a favorite of Markus fans.
Even though the tannins are already surprisingly rounded, and acidity is well-integrated, this is still a baby that could use some age, because it took a day or two of being opened for the fruit to fully emerge.
WHY WE LOVE IT:
- Rich and intense Petite Verdot blend
 - Concentrated notes of dark berries and a hint of spice
 - Complex and sophisticated, but oh so food friendly you just want to plan a menu. Pronto.
 - 90 points Wine Enthusiast

WINEMAKER: Swiss-born winemaker and owner Markus Niggli has a knack for blending old-world techniques with new-world varietals.
WHAT WE TASTED: Harmonious blend of concentrated blackberry, black cherry, blueberry, and plum flavors. Its balanced profile is complemented by a weighty mouthfeel and a dry, lingering finish featuring hints of floral fruit, chocolate, and toasted oak. Decant prior to drinking to provide aeration and unlock freshness.
