MEDITERRANEAN AMARONE ZINFANDEL
WHY WE LOVE IT:
- Amarone style Zin means a bit more sugar left in like Italian Amarone
- Supple, full bodied, slightly sweet
- Delicious now or cellar for 10+ years
WHAT WE TASTED:
We thoroughly enjoyed this exquisite surprise of a California Zin. Dark red color, with opulent red fruits on the nose and palate, with white pepper spice, clove and anise. We loved the sweet soft tannins and long finish of fresh tobacco leaves and leather.
WINEMAKER: Clark Robert Smith - Author of ‘Postmodern Winemaking: Rethinking the Modern Science of an Ancient Craft’ and pioneer in micro-oxygenation. Clark has been in the wine business since 1972 and is one of California’s most widely respected winemakers.
PERSONALITY:
Some of the most notable aspects of WineSmith wines are their longevity, balance, structural integrity, and “understated soulfulness.”
Due to the high sugar content zinfandel grapes can achieve, when fermented to dryness this wine exhibits dark fruit with intense spice notes. When fermented to a lower alcohol level with residual sugar such as an Amarone style, you get intense fruit on the nose and palate, with spice and leather/tobacco components lying in the mid to back palate.
