markus wine co nimmo
White Wine Blend
For over a decade, the Nimmo white wine blend from markus wine co has remained one of the winery's most popular wines. For a new take on this white blend, Markus added Grüner Veltliner from the north bank of the cool Mokelumne River with Kerner from the south bank.
His slow, cold 60-day fermentation captures wonderful aromas of orange, peach and pear. The base layer is smooth and supports floral notes and abundant fruits, like peach and citrus without feeling acidic, but also not sweet or even off-dry.
WHY WE LOVE IT:
- A knockout zesty white blend full of life
- European style winemaking blending Grüner Veltliner (40%), Kerner (36%), Gewürztraminer (20%), and Bacchus (4%)
- 93 Points Wine
- only 45 cases made!
WINEMAKER: Markus Niggli (Atlas Peak, Borra Vineyards)
WHAT WE TASTED: A medium-bodied dry white wine with wonderful aromas of orange, peach and pear and notes of citrus, melons and a touch of oak. Not a buttery Chard!
AVA DESIGNATED: Lodi
WHAT WE PAIRED:
- Chicken piccata with traditional lemon sauce and capers
- Salt-and-peppered roasted chicken with crispy skin
- Lightly spiced Asian cuisine
PERSONALITY:
The Grüner brings a new level of intrigue. In the cellar, Markus develops half the blend in new French oak and stirs all the lees every 10 days to build texture. On top he now has a new pleasing beeswax element leading to a very novel and fresh feel in the mouth along with a depth of fruit concentration that is elevated a step beyond medium bodied.
TECHNICAL:
- Fermented 52°F 60 days/steel, native yeast, no malolactic
- Aged 3 months French oak 50%-new 50%-neutral
- Alcohol 13.3%
