markus wine co - nativo, Lodi
White Blend
WHY WE LOVE IT:
- Mokelumne Glen Vineyards in Lodi is the only source of the rare Kerner grape in California
- Racy, flinty crisp like a dry Reisling while addition of Bacchus rocks an almost herbal Sauv Blanc vibe
- 92 Points Wine Enthusiast
WINEMAKER: Markus Niggli (Atlas Peak, Borra Vineyards)
WHAT WE TASTED: Aromas and flavors of green apple, grapefruit, lemongrass and vanilla. Contemplate that while enjoying a zesty citrus lime burst on the palate. Somewhat weighty mouthfeel was a lovely surprise and gave an illusion of sweetness. Classic old-world-like minerality.
AVA DESIGNATED: Lodi
WHAT WE PAIRED:
- Shrimp with lemon, caper, butter sauce
- sushi and ceviche
- Peach and prosciutto
PERSONALITY:
Markus focuses on old vine vineyards as well as younger ones farming less common, very exciting grape varieties. He aims to create "zeitlos" wines - timeless - ability to age or drink young. We appreciate his low intervention approach. Note the label is designed to include the postal code for Markus’s hometown in Switzerland. Enjoy!
