Mokelumne River Red Wine Field Blend

A remarkable expression of terroir and tradition demonstrating meticulous craftsmanship and a deep respect for the land.  This wine in particular pays tribute to ancient block vines planted over 85 years ago.

WHY WE LOVE IT:

  • Crafted from a harmonious blend of varietals sourced from heritage vineyards.
  • 92 Points Wine Enthusiast
  • Complex flavors and a rich profile
  • Its aging potential suggests this blend will evolve beautifully, inviting exploration and enjoyment for years to come.

WINEMAKER: Markus Niggli, a Swiss-born winemaker who excels at European traditions such as blending grape varieties.

AVA DESIGNATED: Mokelumne River in California's Central Valley

The Church Block vines were planted in1938 and purchased in the 1970's from the Catholic church.

WHAT WE TASTED:  An aromatic bouquet of ripe dark berries, subtle oak, and a hint of earthiness evoke a feeling of stepping into a cathedral of flavor. On the palate, black raspberry with cherry along with some cinnamon and savory elements, like leather and soil. This impressive wine has a smooth, velvety texture with well-integrated tannins and a harmonious balance of dark fruit flavors making it both approachable and elegant.

WHAT WE PAIRED:

  • French Onion Soup
  • Slow Roasted Pork Shoulder
  • Mushrooms stuffed with cheese and herbs
  • Lasagna Bolognese
